Tor: hide your node's transactions and offer an onion RPC
Relay your own transactions over Tor, accept inbound peers over Tor, and give wallets an .onion RPC address.

Install Tor and create hidden services
sudo apt install tor
# /etc/tor/torrc
HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/monero-p2p
HiddenServicePort 18084 127.0.0.1:18084
HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/monero-rpc
HiddenServicePort 18089 127.0.0.1:18089
sudo systemctl restart tor
sudo cat /var/lib/tor/monero-p2p/hostname # your-p2p-address.onion
sudo cat /var/lib/tor/monero-rpc/hostname # your-rpc-address.onionmonerod flags
--tx-proxy tor,127.0.0.1:9050,10
--anonymous-inbound your-p2p-address.onion:18084,127.0.0.1:18084,25
# optional: also sync the chain over Tor (slower)
# --proxy 127.0.0.1:9050 --p2p-bind-ip 127.0.0.1The inbound onion port must be unique (not 18080, and not 18083 if P2Pool uses it for ZMQ). It is for transaction relay, not blockchain sync.
Connect a wallet over Tor
monero-wallet-cli --proxy 127.0.0.1:9050 --daemon-address your-rpc-address.onion:18089Feather Wallet has Tor built in and can be set to connect to onion nodes only.
Limits
Tor hides your IP from peers and remote nodes. It does not protect a compromised computer, and blockchain sync over Tor is slow.
