Your seed
- The 25-word (or 16-word Polyseed) seed is the wallet. Write it on paper/metal, offline
- Never type it into a website, chat, or support form. No legitimate service asks for it, including this one
- Add a seed offset/passphrase if your wallet supports it
Software
- Download wallets only from official sites; verify hashes/signatures
- Hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor models with Monero support) keep spend keys off the computer
- Keep the wallet updated; network upgrades require new versions
Habits
- One subaddress per payer or service, so they cannot link your payments
- Use a view-only wallet for bookkeeping or a shop server; it can see incoming funds but cannot spend
- Remember that exchanges with KYC know which deposits/withdrawals are yours
