Stagenet Sandbox
Practise Monero payments with worthless stagenet coins: run a stagenet node and wallet, get coins from a faucet, then check payments and fees with the tools below.
What stagenet is
Stagenet is a separate Monero network that follows mainnet's rules and upgrades, but its coins have no value. Stagenet addresses start with 5 (primary) or 7 (subaddress); mainnet addresses start with 4 or 8. Default ports: P2P 38080, RPC 38081. Never send mainnet coins to a stagenet address, or the reverse.1. Download and verify Monero
Get the CLI tools from getmonero.org and verify the hashes and signature before running them.
2. Run a stagenet node
A pruned stagenet node needs a few GB and syncs in well under an hour on a normal connection. Binding RPC to 127.0.0.1 keeps it private.
monerod --stagenet --prune-blockchain \
--rpc-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 --rpc-bind-port 380813. Create a test wallet
Use your own node, or a public stagenet node if you only want to try things quickly (a remote node can see which outputs your wallet asks about; acceptable for test coins).
monero-wallet-cli --stagenet \
--daemon-address 127.0.0.1:38081 \
--generate-new-wallet ~/stagenet/test-walletmonero-wallet-cli --stagenet \
--daemon-address xmr.nodely.dev:38089 \
--generate-new-wallet ~/stagenet/test-wallet4. Get stagenet coins
Ask a faucet for a small amount sent to your 5… or 7… address. Coins unlock after 10 blocks (about 20 minutes). Please send leftovers back.
- faucet-stagenet.xmr.nodely.dev — Nodely stagenet faucet: 0.5 sXMR per claim, one claim per address and IP per 24 h, proof-of-work instead of a captcha.
- cypherfaucet.com — CypherFaucet: 0.01 sXMR per hour, captcha.
- Checked on 30 Oct 2026: both pages were up, funded and synced to the current stagenet height; Nodely's latest payout transaction was found on two public stagenet nodes. We did not claim coins ourselves.
5. Integrate with monero-wallet-rpc
This is how a shop backend usually receives Monero: one subaddress per order, then poll incoming transfers until they have enough confirmations. Keep the RPC on 127.0.0.1 and use a real password.
monero-wallet-rpc --stagenet \
--daemon-address 127.0.0.1:38081 \
--rpc-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 --rpc-bind-port 38083 \
--wallet-dir ./wallets --rpc-login test:CHANGE-MERPC='http://127.0.0.1:38083/json_rpc'
call() { curl -s --digest -u test:CHANGE-ME "$RPC" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d "{\"jsonrpc\":\"2.0\",\"id\":\"0\",\"method\":\"$1\",\"params\":$2}"; }
call create_wallet '{"filename":"shop","language":"English"}'
call create_address '{"account_index":0,"label":"order-1001"}' # one subaddress per order
call get_transfers '{"in":true,"pool":true}' # incoming, incl. mempool
call get_height '{}'Stagenet Payment Proof Checker
Same check as the mainnet tool (the tx key or view key is used only in your browser), but the transaction is read from public stagenet nodes and the address must be a stagenet address.
Stagenet fee estimate
get_fee_estimate from two public stagenet nodes. Mainnet fees differ; use the Fees page for real payments.

Answered get_info (stagenet, synchronized), get_fee_estimate and get_transactions from Cloudflare on 30 Oct 2026. The tools on this page use them; two nodes from different operators must agree.
